Effective SEO Tools For Site Owners

First of all, I want to insist that this article is aimed at site owners since occasionally site owners and webmasters are not the same. Suppose a realtor owns a real estate website. But, she is just a newbie on the Internet and she depends on the webmaster (e.g.from hosting provider) in her website’s SEO campaign. In fact, that webmaster couldn’t understand real estate industry deeply like her and he has many other sites to manage. So the SEO campaign wouldn’t get the expected result. In most cases, the site owners will play an important part in the achievement of SEO campaign. However, HTML language, search engines, link popularity, PageRank seem so unfamiliar with them at first. Therefore, the goal of this article is providing the novice site owners with some basic but efficient tools and knowledge in Search Engine Optimisation. This will assist site owners in cooperating better with webmasters or SEO agencies to increase their web sites’ ranking in Search Engines.

1. Search Engines -You are a site owner and you yourself should get familiar with search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN Search to search for your competitors’ sites to see how they are positioning themselves in the marketplace, analyze the keywords, check your sites’ link popularity (the number of links to your website from other sites) and link saturation (number of pages on your sites have been indexed by search engine). These search engine syntaxes aren’t theoretical as you’ve thought and you don’t need to pay attention to the complex algorithms behind them. For instance, to check whether your sites are indexed, just type site:your_site_domain in search engines. Remember that your_site_url and your_site_domain are not identical. Site domain does not contain http:// while site URL must have (ex: http://your_site_domain/your_page.htm is a URL of your website).

Assume the SEO firm, in their optimisation report, would ask the site owners to exchange links with other relevant websites to improve the link popularity. The problem is: where can I find the other sites? Don’t be concerned, search engines can help you. Site owners can learn from their competitors about which websites they’ve exchanged links with by checking their link popularity.

In short, if you want search engines to help bring in business, you should become friendly with them first. Search engines are always beneficial friends (despite the fact that they are not easy to control!).

2. HTML basic syntax and HTML editor - Site owners are not obligated to master HTML language to re-design their pages. That is not their task. But basic syntaxes are always needed. They should know to locate where the block in an html page is to add new auto-generated Meta-tags. I’ve mentioned auto-generated Meta-tags because site owners don’t need to code the Meta-tags either. With “Meta-tags Generator” keyword, they can find that on search engines thousands of websites are welcoming them to use their tool. Besides, the html link syntax is also worthwhile to remember: Look at this simple code your descriptive text which you send to other site owners for link exchange. Your website has many pages for exchanging links so it is important to know this link code to change your_site_url_1 to other pages and your descriptive text respectively. In addition, with the knowledge of html syntax, you can open your web pages and insert the links at your own and stop calling webmasters regularly for editing pages with links. Nowadays, html editors such as FrontPage, DreamWeaver can highly simplify this task in the similar way as you are working with MS Word. Just choose the position in Design view (in FrontPage) and paste the link code in the Code view at the cursor.

3. Google toolbar - Google Toolbar is a valuable tool for web surfers and even more useful to site owners to check PageRank. PageRank is a Google’s grade (from 0 to 10) to analyze the quality and quantity of links that point to a page. With high pageranks, they don’t ensure a high position in Google’s search results but they can tell us many things. PageRank inspires site owners in the long routine of SEO. The little green color on this bar resembles fruits in the tree of our efforts and we are motivated to dig more in SEO. On top of that, PageRank helps site owners to find appropriate sites to exchange links with. Seek for the sites with the same level (pagerank) to foresee the success of your link exchange requests. To install Google toolbar to your browsers (Internet Explorer or Firefox), just start by typing Google toolbar in search engines and follow the first result.

In this article, I have provided the site owners with some basic but efficient tools to come along their SEO campaigns. They include, but not limit to, search engines, HTML editor and Google toolbar. In addition, there exists others such as FTP tool, Google sitemap, Link Directory software, etc… The important thing to novice site owners is leaving behind your main profession and get your hands wet with these tools. Webmaster and SEO firm can’t do everything for you. Learning SEO tools today will never be too late and squandered.

If you’ve been involved in internet marketing you are aware of the importance of using traffic exchanges to generate free prospects to your websites. To get the most out of this resource you need to kick it up a notch.

I’ve added 10 or so traffic exchanges to the mix and am now generating an average of 150-300 new visits to my website every day.

The first thing you’ll want to do is download a free tool called a tabbed browser that will greatly help in managing these sites.

www.avantbrowser.com

Without this you would have to have 20 windows open at one time and go from one site to the next trying to surf through each one. Impossible. This will save you a tremendous amount of time and effort.

Here is a list of the traffic exchanges I’ve found to be the best at generating traffic to my site. The other strategy to look at is in buying credits on these sites. You’ll not need to surf so much but will still get the traffic. Keep in mind that your audience in these traffic exchanges are primarily network marketers. make sure your offering is a service, product or tool they can use to build their business.

It will take a bit of work on your part to get all of these set up and your website(s) url listed in each one. Then you’ll want to open each one of your surfing links into your Advant Browser and save it to a group. Once you’ve done that you can open up the group and start surfing.

To Your Success!

General SEO Information

With millions of web pages clogging the internet, and the number of pages increasing by thousands every day, it is only natural that one is finding it difficult to search out a particular page from the cyberspace with the aid of a search engine.
Further, as online business is a domain that is witnessing a burgeoning growth, it became necessary that one’s website must always been visible, no matter what its contents are. Thus took shape what we know today – the search engine optimization or SEO – which is a way of designing or tailor making a website to suit the search algorithm used by the popular search engines. While SEO is not 100% successful – as search engines often change their search algorithms – it has been able to strike a successful enough rate, making the technique indispensable for almost all websites one could find in the cyberspace today.

SEO includes optimizing a variety of factors such as webpage designing, its contents and keywords, keyword location, meta tags, number of pages, overall arrangement of page contents etc, to name a few.

Keyword density ideally must be in the range 5-7%. But it is also important that it does not exceed the upper limit. Anything above 8% can be counter productive. Further, the keyword must be closer to the initial part of the page than coming at any lower part first. Equally important is the occurrence of keywords within the title tag. Keywords in links and text formatting – in bold or higher fonts – are also an effective technique to catch the eye of search engine spiders.

Continuing, more the number of pages, the better will be the visibility of a website in a web search. Also keywords in the navigation menu and page name improve the search results considerably. Further, if there are too many pages – equal to or more than 24 – put all those in a root directory and try to avoid subdirectories. Beware; pages in the subdirectory are mostly avoided by search engines.

On a flip side, there are certain aspects as well – commonly called SEO mistakes – that needs to be avoided, which otherwise can really bring down all the other efforts that has been put in to improve the ranking of a website.

The most widely made SEO mistake is the use of graphic headers at the top of a webpage. Remember, the top portion of a webpage is where most of the keywords must come in for best SEO. If that space is used instead for some logo or other catchy images, while it leave the webpage good looking, it does not help search results in any way. The same is the case with graphic navigation menus. The search engine won’t be able to index the text contained in its links.

Another aspect to note is the use of scripts for site navigation. Keep in mind, search engines cannot execute or read scripts. Also, it is not advisable to use deceptive hidden texts for duping search engine spiders, for it could invite possible bans, which would mean complete outclassing from search results forever. Finally, avoid redirects as much as possible. That really complicates the matters for the search engine spider.

In fact there are more intricate aspects of SEO, but much of it are beyond the scope of this article. For those who are keen to know more about SEO, it is advisable to refer any related technical articles or books. Such resources you may find here:

On Search Engine Marketing, Ranking and Optimization by SEO Firms

Posted on August 29th, 2006. About SEO Contest, Search Engine Optimization, Traffic Generation.

Get the right scripts for business

Website leads not converting in high enough numbers?

Try simplifying navigation; adding landing pages that answer specific queries can also transform response.

Offline you can catch mediocre copy and design and change it fast.

If still nothing improves, people go for SEO experts.

However, even with its new found respectability many decision makers find the choice of SEO agents baffling as there is no regulatory body to judge standards.

From a corporate perspective, the only way to view the success of your search engine optimization campaign is from the results it achieves, be that in awareness, more sales leads, or simply communication with your company.

An SEO firm has to balance between their knowledge and the basic premise of what search engines are all about and the subsequent rules and algorithms they live by.

Think of it from the search engine’s perspective, their overall value depends on consistently serving up the most informed and relevant answers to queries their visitors are asking.

This might sound obvious, but then consider how many inferior websites might be in front of yours right now in the search engines, and that’s before you consider those sites which have no place in those results anyway.

The trouble is, wherever there is a code or a system, you can guarantee that some people will try and break it, or at least try and fool the search engines into delivering results that will keep their clients happy.

The truth of it is that getting improved search engine ranking and sustaining the position can only be done ethically by the “white hat” SEO companies, or you can visit the dark side - the so called “black hat” brigade at your own risk.

Take link building, for instance. Here’s a legitimate SEO technique that done properly, will stabilise and grow the popularity of a website as incoming links from relevant and respected websites are seen as a ‘vote on confidence’ in yours. It’s not unusual for a successful, well ranked website to have many thousands of links.

But what happens when your SEO suggests buying links? Or sourcing hundreds of new links from those so called link-farms?

Reciprocal links are an excellent way of building popularity, but again, even this is open to abuse if only low ranking or rather tenuous links are sought from those other companies.

In any case, weak search engine optimisation, or worse, SEO that cuts corners, will compromise results, overall ranking positions and in extreme cases, might even get you bounced from the search engines altogether.

But who is the real victim here?

For sure the SEO agency might lose you as a client, but you have potentially lost much more. First there’s the unknown cost of lost sales leads as those motivated buyers simply haven’t been introduced to your site; but you have also lost something much more precious: time.

Sound, ethical organic search engine optimisation or search engine marketing is a long term commitment and any company gambles with that at their peril.

5 Things To Consider When Publishing A Newsletter

Posted on August 28th, 2006. About SEO Contest, Search Engine Optimization, Traffic Generation.

Get the right scripts for business

5 Things To Consider When Publishing A Newsletter

Providing a newsletter for your opt-in list
subscribers provides many benefits in
terms of driving traffic into your site as
well as boosting the sales and profits of
your site and company. This is a marketing
ploy that will not hugely dent your
marketing budget and will not also require
many man-hours in developing this project.

With a newsletter, you can inform the public
about your company and products as well as
services. You can keep them posted and
updated about what’s going-on with your
company as well as many of your promotions
and offerings. With these, you keep on
reminding your subscribers that you are
still here and is willing to offer them good
deals and services.

Newsletters also allow you to impress
your subscribers. It can show your
expertise and knowledge about the topic
at hand and the many benefits you can
offer them. When you impress people,
they will become potential customers
and another great thing is that they can
recommend you to their friends,
colleagues and family. All of them could
very well be customers in the future.

If you do not have a newsletter or
publishing one for your site, then you
may have to consider about researching
and be well informed on how to publish
one. It is not as easy as it seems but if
and when you get the right idea and
process, it will be smooth sailing from
there on. Try to take the time to learn
what you need to learn and get that
newsletter ready and good to attract
subscribers to your newsletter as well
as traffic to your site.

In the next few paragraphs, I will provide
you with some things to reflect on when
you decide to start your own newsletter
for your site.

Here are five things to consider when
publishing a newsletter.

1) Make sure that the content of your
newsletter pertains to and closely
associated with your business or the
theme of your site. Do not dwell too far
on what could be regarded as your
field of expertise. You have started a
site and your theme for your site will
always be something you are
knowledgeable about.

For example; if you have a site that sells
auto car parts, your newsletter must
contain articles or content like photos
that pertain to cars, auto parts and
such. You may also include content
about your company and your staff.

Remember that visitors of a certain
site are there because they are interested
in what the site has to offer. If they sign
up for an opt-in list or for a newsletter
this means that they want to be updated
for that certain theme or subject.

Be sure that when you publish your
newsletter you are providing for the
need of the subscriber as well as their
interests.

2) Ensure that you have well written,
information riddled and content rich
articles. You articles will be the body of
your newsletter and that they should be
able to excite your readers as well as
provide information. Articles should be
well written and checked for errors such
as spelling and grammatical errors for it
to look professional and believable.

The trust of your client to you and
newsletter is at stake here.

3) Fact-check your articles. Make sure that
you provide true facts and figures so that
your reputation as an expert and knowledgeable
in that field is not questioned. If you lose the
trust of your subscribers these may persuade
them to unsubscribe to your newsletter.

You will lose many potential sales this way.

4) Provide fresh and new articles that can
provide new information to your subscribers.
If you publish stale and old news in your newsletter,
there is a tendency that people or your subscribers
already have read and known about them. This will
lose their interest in your newsletter and they won’t
get to read what is most important, your ads.

They may not open or read any of your succeeding
newsletters losing your intention in writing and
publishing newsletters, to get them to visit your
site and make a purchase.
5) Never use copyrighted materials such as photos
and articles. This is outright plagiarism, you may
get into a lot of trouble for this. You can lose your
business and get sued over copyright infringement.

If you do not have the time to write your own
articles, there are many willing and able professional
article writers that can do it for you for a reasonable
fee. All your investment in writing and publishing
articles will be well worth it when you see your list
build up and your traffic increasing.

What AltaVista Search Engine Likes To See

What AltaVista Search Engine Likes To See

Author Frank Gorka

Word Count 1158

Date 7-31-06

What do the search engines look for on your site. Well
first of all each search engine has different requirements
for you to be indexed into their directory or database.

Each search engine is very unique in their own way and have
different rules that you must meet before they list your
site.

So with that in mind we are going to look at each search
engine and open directory on a individual bases. Lets take
Alta Vista first and then we will look at the rest of the
search engines.

AltaVista is a crawler base search engine you can hand
submit your web page by going to this site
http://addurl.altavista.com/addurl/default it will take
4 to 8 weeks depending on what kind of website you have.
You can expect the crawler to revisit your site every 2
to 4 weeks.

Make sure you Use the basic submit option, this will save
you alot of money and you will get the same results that
the paid inclusion offers.

It will ask you to log in to your Yahoo.com account, if
you don’t have one you can get one for free just sign up
and then login.

When you submit your site at Yahoo.com, make sure you
submit your main url for indexing, not each individual
pages.

Also make sure each page is different in content and they
are not the same pages that you are submitting due to you
do not want to get your url banned from the crawler
indexing of your site.

The search engines do band you from indexing your url due
to SPAMMING THEM WITH multiple pages and from using
tricks on your pages.

Also make sure each site has a different web address to
them this will keep you in good standing with AltaVista
or any other search engine you might submit to.

AltaVista will not except pages with tricks on them,
let me explain what I mean here.

Such as Invisible text, very small text such as #1 #2
in size, those that use misleading pages such as the
content does not match your keywords or your title or
description content, also doorway pages that don’t look
like your url pages or that don’t have real solid
content.

Also these factors will also keep you from being indexed
into their database and AltaVista calls this spamming
their database. DO NOT USE THESE THINGS ON YOUR PAGE.

1. Using meta refresh coding this refreshes your page
every 30 seconds to every 30 days or so, this is only
trouble waiting to happen DO NOT DO THIS

2. Keyword repetition of the same keywords or keyword
phrases. Like limo, limo, limo, limo, limo do you get
what I am saying here do not do this. DO NOT DO THIS

3. Invisible text this is when you use the same color
background of your text such as white background and
white text. DO NOT DO THIS

4. Page Swapping this is when you submit to AltaVista
the right way and then you switch the page with
something totally different in content. DO NOT DO THIS

5. Any redirection coding stay away from this or your
Url could be considered a Spam site and you will never
get it into the index and as a result no one will be
able to find you. DO NOT DO THIS

Much Success

Google Sitemaps for Newbies and Professionals

Posted on August 26th, 2006. About SEO Contest, Search Engine Optimization, Traffic Generation.

Software Scripts Resources

Get the right scripts for business

The Google Sitemaps is a new program that allows webmasters to create a sitemap of their site. Why is it worth the extra trouble? Well, partially because the website masters don’t have a choice, but also because it leads to the two things that can improve search engine ranking: it’s easier for Google to index all the pages (thus avoiding the problem of accidentally ‘skipping’ key information) and it’s easier to upload new and relevant content.

Essentially, you use the XML program. That’s easy enough for webmasters. After that, three options await—ranging from the simple and straightforward, to what we’d like to call “Challenging”.

Let’s start with challenging. Of course that’s a relative term; if you’re so comfortable wit your server and so smart you can install scripts in your sleep, then this won’t be much of a problem. You use Google’s Python Generator. You’ll need to install this, and that requires a little more technical know-how than reading “IT Management for Dummies.” How does it work? The search engine gives you a link to a generator. Download this link, and set it up on your server. While you go off and get yourself a well-deserved cup of coffee, the computer does it thing and you come back and find that your sitemap XML file has been automatically fed to Google. Once that’s done, open a Google Account so you can follow your sitemap’s progress and read any diagnostic data. Or, alternatively, you can sign in using your accounts for GMail and Google Alerts.

Not too keen on Python Generator? Not a problem. Use is a PHP Code Generator. This program spiders your site, then takes charge of developing the XML sitemap file. Cool—it does everything for you! Except you’ll have to have a basic understanding of PHP files and scripts, or you’ll be lost. Not something for the average Joe (or Jane) who just wants to make a personal website, but relatively simple for professional webmasters or a particularly smart weekend tekkie.

If you think Python Generator and PHP are way too complex, or just too complicated, don’t panic. You still have plenty of options—the numerous free online generators that are all over the web, ready to rescue you from the hassles of XML sitemaps. Google itself keeps a directory of these third party suppliers (for lack of a better word), so just visit its website or Google them yourself.

One such option that is provided by XML-Sitemaps requires minimal supervision. Click it, and let it spider your site and index as many as 500 pages into a handy sitemap XML file. (Although, if you really do have 500 pages, it may be a good idea to get a webmaster—that’s a lot of content to handle on your own. Then you can make him worry about the XML sitemaps for you.)

Once the sitemap is generated, these programs will also let you download files and make minor changes. Another advantage: you can establish the priority of the pages, indicate the kind of frequency you want and adjust it accordingly, and other nifty features that give you more control over your website. If you are doing daily updates, however, you should use PHP or Python Generator.

Upload the file to your website, tell Google Sitemaps that you’ve “done the deed”, and let the hits come.

XML-Sitemaps.com provides a free online Google Sitemaps generator which will also help you find and fix broken links.
